Research interests: In addition to teaching, I am the Principal Investigator of the NIH-funded, Northern California Childhood Leukemia Study (NCCLS); an epidemiological investigation of childhood leukemia in Northern and Central California. Other research interests include: evaluating the role of genetic factors and environmental exposures, including exposure to tobacco smoke in the etiology of childhood leukemia and childhood brain tumors. I have served on numerous national and international advisory groups, and was recently appointed to the Kenneth and Marjorie Kaiser Endowed Chair. I am a member of the Institute of Medicine and am currently serving on the National Academy Committee. |
